COACH MATT LATHROP

My name is Matt, and I am 43 years old. I am married to my wonderful wife Krystal, and we have two children, Lily (18) and Spencer (14). Raised in the Palm Desert and La Quinta area, I developed a passion for hockey at 16 years old. Although I did not pursue it seriously because I joined the military, I continued to play recreationally throughout my life.

I served in the military for five years as a Medic, during which I earned a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medicine and Fire Science. After returning from a deployment in Iraq, I transitioned out of the Army and began a career with Cal Fire as a Firefighter/Paramedic.

Following a work-related accident, I retired from Cal Fire in 2021. This unexpected turn of events allowed me to return to the ice and pursue a career in coaching hockey, a sport I have always loved. Additionally, it has given me the opportunity to mentor my son and help him develop his skills in hockey.

I am deeply grateful for the chance to coach and inspire others in this incredible sport. It is an honor to contribute to the development of aspiring hockey players and share my passion for the game.
